Czechia

Dates: 1-7 September 2010.

Having been to Prague a few years earlier for a stag do, I wanted to go back and see the place properly and not just from the inside of a bar!

Our apartment for the duration was on the 14th century Wenceslas Square:

The iconic National Museum at the top of the square with Saint Wenceslas in the foreground:

The famous Prague Astronomical Clock was about the only thing I did see during the stag do:

The 14th century Church of Our Lady before Týn from high up the clock tower:

The Old Town square:

City views:

The Old Town Bridge Tower and Charles IV statue guarding the entrance to Prague most famous bridge, Charles Bridge (Karlův most):

A view of Prague Castle in the distance from the bridge:

St. Vitus Cathedral with the castle walls:

Views from high up in the castle grounds:

River-side walk and views:

Rather creepy-looking baby statues around Kampa Park:

This car looks a bit ropey…

Around Petřín Gardens:

Goulash in a bread role dish was delicious:

A statue to commemorate Bohemian novelist Franz Kafka, a sculpture in front of the baroque Church of Saint Nicholas, and the curious Sigmund Freud sculpture:

East of the main train station is the home of FK Viktoria Žižkov so we had to take a look:

The “old fashioned futuristic looking” Žižkov Television Tower, note the little baby statues dotting the tower!:

Back on the banks of the Vltava, the Dancing House:

The neo-Gothic Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul in the grounds of the Vyšehrad fortress:

The view of the Ministry of Industry and Trade from the Letenské sady (park):

On our final day we took a boat trip on the Vltava:

One last bite and drink along the riverside before heading home:

Prague is a gem of a city; steeped in history and incredible architecture, but also offering plenty of places to eat and drink, with the better places naturally being away from the tourist-heavy centre. The traditional cuisine is a huge favourite of mine!
